For a riding membership you will need your own horse or pony and access to a float to transport to the grounds. However we are always looking for volunteers and a non-riding membership is also available if you are a horse lover and just want to get involved!
What to expect at pony club
Lots of FUN!
Monthly rally days at our home ground at Cabarita Beach where we train at flat riding, dressage, showjumping and sporting. The occasional clinic for specialist skills and within the zone (From Grafton to Tweed) there are Gymkanas where competitors compete at different disciplines these are held at different clubs in the zone. You don't have to compete if you don't want to, you signup to the events you wish to participate in.
What do I need for a Gymkhana?
Uniform - Check out our uniform page for uniform requirements for Gymkhanas
Dressage & Showjumping cards - you need one of each to compete (available from uniform)
Nominate for the event - event will be published on JustGo and link communicated. You will need to advise your Dressage level and Showjumping grade. If you are just starting out (and not in the beginner/lead line ring) then you will be Preliminary Dressage and E grade jumping. Otherwise your grade/level will be indicated on your card.
Plaiting - most Gymkhanas/events expect you to plait your horse, unless a fundraiser or T-shirt day. There are lots of ways to plait a mane, forelock and tail, google it and check out some YouTube videos. The club also runs show prep classes to help. Otherwise reach out at a rally day to another member to help you. TIP - it takes longer than you expect, try and arrive a 1-2 hours before start time to include plaiting time or do it the night before if you are lucky to have a horse that wont rub it out :) - Practice makes perfect....
Also remember your child/competitor will be riding most of the day - don't forget water & hay for your horse and snacks/drinks/sunscreen for your rider.
